The last days of Pernell

Hi guys....

Pernell found cancer in 2008. Then came... surgery, ....chemotherapy,... radiotherapy....
Anyone know.... how were the last days of Pernell?

I know he had a lot of pain and had to take "heavy" medicine...
I think he felt really weak and powerless.

This illness must be one of the hardest.

Pernell’s wife said that Pernell loved trees and spent a lot of time in the yard pruning trees. He would even take along his red handled clippers when he traveled in case he found a tree that needed to be pruned. After Pernell’s first chemotherapy regimen they had traveled up to Novato and Eleanor had a dead oak tree out in her front yard. She was going to call a tree service, but Pernell decided he was going to fell the tree. He did. He was so proud of himself that the tree fell right where he predicted it would fall. Pernell was happy with his lifetime achievements and enjoyed reminiscing about old times.

Peter Harrell [actor in Trapper John] said that his last visit with Pernell was in November 2009. He and a friend were only going to visit Pernell for about an hour because they knew he was sick and weak. The visit ended up being three hours long. Before Peter left, Pernell sang 12 stanzas of one of his favorite folk songs, Dapper Dan. Peter said he could tell that Pernell had given it all he had. At the end, Pernell stood up and took a bow. That was Peter’s last visit with Pernell.

Oh, really nice story roberta! I see the pictures before me. I'm sure this little private concert was wonderful. Nice to hear that he was in such a great mood although he was already very very sick.

Falls ihr auch gerade überlegt, was ein "bow" ist..., damit ist wohl eine "Verbeugung"
gemeint.

Ein schönes Lied! Ich kann mir schon so gut vorstellen, wie Pernell das wohl singen würde. Wie schade, dass wir da nicht Mäuschen spielen konnten.

Seit ich das Video gesehen habe,kann ich mir das auch richtig gut vorstellen,wie er den Song vorgetragen hat.
Schade,dass auf seiner LP,dieser Titel nicht mit drauf war.

In the stories I read about his last days, Pernell sings.....[I believe he was in pain but showed happiness...He wanted people to remember him this way ..... happy]
He showed willingness to live happily.

I admire people like Pernell, who are able to be happy although they know they'll die soon. On the other hand I think it's the best way you can estivate the rest of your life, but I think the most of us aren't able to do it in the way he did.

I admire people with courage like Pernell.....
I study his life and everything I find... makes me love him more and more....
